    Kapel wittentak
  • Novena at Chapel of Wittentak: from the last weekend of June, during nine days. This year from 26th of June till 5th of July.
    The chapel is just around the corner of the street of the cottage.
  • Fiertel procession (Flemish legacy) : 30/05/2010. Procession started in the Middle Ages. People came from everywhere to heal mental illnesses and insanity with the help of Saint Hermes. Details see website

Walking

    Molen ten Hotond Close to the cottage:

    • After a 15 min walk from the cottage you can discover the mill Ten Hotond, the highest point of Flanders. Ask the manager of the pub to give you the keys of the mill and climb onto its rooftop to discover the wonderful sight over the region. When the weather is bright you see up to Ghent en more than 108 Flemisch and Wallon churches. See the routes vergezichten wandeling and Beiaard wandeling of the Omer Wattez foundation.
    • Pasar organized on April 11 th of 2010 the beautiful walk Ronse Verleidt (= Ronse seduces), which passes across the holidays house. You can chose for a walk of 8km - 12km or 15km.

    • At the donkey farm Giteane in Schorisse you can take your child (up to 30kg) on a 2 hour or day walk.
    • The Kluisbos, with a on open air swimmingpool is only 15 min driving.
    • Omloop Kluisbergen: 39 ste editie gaat door op zaterdag 15 en zondag 16 mei 2010. Gezien er door talrijke privedomeinen wordt gewandeld, worden geen plannetjes vrijgegeven. De wandeling kan enkel en alleen op de Omloop zelf gebeuren.

  • Musea in Ronse
    • Folkloremuseum. The museum of folklore and local history houses an exceptional collection of items of historical and folkloric interest, some dating from prehistoric times, others illustrating the life of the medieval guilds, and still others giving an insight into former craft industries of the town (weaver, basket-maker, baker, shoemaker, shuttle-maker, clogmaker, innkeeper, printer, etc.). Famous people of Ronse, the "Fiertel" pilgrimage, and other notable historical events are also given their place in the museum.
    • Textielmuseum. The museum of the local textile industry offers a fascinating survey of the development of our textile industry (spinning, dyeing, weaving, finishing, etc.) covering 150 years from pre-industrial times until 1950. textile implements and machinery, are displayed and an insight is given into the social implications of industrialisation of the textile industry, making a visit here well worth while.
    • Museum Sint-HermescrypteThe Romanesque crypt in ronse is practically unique. Nowhere else in Belgium can one find such grandeur and yet such intimacy. Since it was extended to the east in 1516-17 the crypt has no less than 32 pillars which make it into a real "underground cathedral". Its architectural uniformity is exceptional, notwhithstanding the rich and sometimes confusing diversity of building styles represented here. In addition to its impressive architecture it gives the visitor an idea of what pilgrimages to the shrines of saints in the Middle Ages where all about and also houses many valuable archaeological finds.

It is a true open-air museum, portraying the lives of the different peoples who have lived one after another here in our region through various different reconstructions which draw on the results of numerous archaeological digs.
  • Automuseum Mahymobiles, Rue Erna 3, 7900, Leuze-en-Hainaut: Amble through the world history of automobiles from 1895 to the present day (270 veteran and vintage vehicles) and gain mechanical knowledge in the educational area. In other areas of Mahymobiles you will discover exceptional collections of miniature cars, historic bicycles & motorcycles, a children’s mini circuit, a gallery dedicated to the evolution of the coach building and a special display on world famous ‘raids’.

Approximately 800 pewter pieces (patients' dishes), Brussels and Tournai chinaware still used by the Sisters in the fifties, a lot of brassware (candelabras, buckets and warming pans), 140 pieces of silverware and goldsmiths' ware, precious linen...

  • The Royal Guild for archery St. Sebastiaan in Ronse invites children (till 12 years) every monday from 17:00-18:00 to do archery for free (indoor if the weather is bad). Adults can play from 18:00 on. This is the second oldest guild of Europe. Location: Auberge St-Sebastien.

Donkeys and carriages
  • You can get a Rosalie cart to walk your children in the town.
  • At your request we can provide for a carriage with horse to come and pick you up at the front door of the cottage and have a beautiful drive in the neighbourhood (25 euro per hour for 6 persons). Please make a reservation more than two weeks in advance.
  • At donkeyfarm Giteane in Schorisse you can hire a donkey that accompany you on your walk. A child up to 30kg can sit on the back of the donkey and you lead the animal yourself. There is also a animal farm for children.

  • The donkey farm The Pays des Collines Donkey Farm is located in the Parc Naturel du Pays des Collines, in Belgium, and is one of the most important donkey milk manufacturing place in Europe. A combination of passion and profession, this place is meant to take you into the world of the donkey through the farming and selling of donkeys, as well as the manufacturing of care products and food products made from donkey milk.
